Strengthening Organizations That Serve Communities
BRIAN FRASER, PH.D., PARTNERING COACH
Brian Fraser is the lead provocateur of Jazzthink, a company that uses the wisdom and working of jazz to help people imagine a better way of exercising leadership and building teams. He coaches executives, mostly in the nonprofit sector, who are seeking to maximize their potential and help others do the same.

Prior to founding Jazzthink in 2002, Brian held executive positions in Christian congregations and colleges in Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC. During his tenure as dean of St. Andrew’s Hall, the Presbyterian college at the University of British Columbia, he founded a national institute of leadership development for those governing local congregations within The Presbyterian Church in Canada. He also guided the expansion of the Hall’s student housing business in ways that improved the revenue flows of the college from $130,000 to $1.6 million.

Brian has been a member of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management since 2002 and currently serves on the Board of Directors. He has worked closely with Denice on the McAdam Book Award Jury and succeeded her as chair in 2004. He currently works with Denice on the Alliance Governance Task Force. He is a trainer with Volunteer Vancouver in the areas of governance and leadership and writes a regular book review column for their newsletter. He continues to serve on local nonprofit boards – the International Coach Federation, Action Line Housing Society, and the Workplace Centre for Ethics and Spirituality.

Brian has an M.A. in the history of education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, an M.Div. from Knox College at the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Canadian history from York University, Toronto. His academic research, writing, and teaching has focused on leadership development and organizational culture.
